Minister Mitchell O’Connor welcomes deferral of HPAT results

The Minister of State for Higher Education Mary Mitchell O’Connor has welcomed the decision to defer this year’s HPAT-Ireland results until after the leaving certificate examinations are complete, bringing them in line with previous years.

The Health Professions Admission Test – Ireland (HPAT – Ireland) is an admissions test used to assist with the selection of students into medicine and health professions degree programs. This year’s exam was sat on 22 February. Results were due to be released in late June but the decision has now been taken to defer the results until later in the summer when the leaving certificate examinations are complete. The new date for the results will be confirmed at a later stage.

Minister Mitchell O’Connor said:

We are in an unprecedented situation at the moment and I welcome the flexibility being shown by the higher education sector. We have to provide as much as possible support for our students and their mental health and this announcement means the HPAT results will operate as normal once the students have completed the exams.

Students can continue to focus on the upcoming exams without worrying about their HPAT results and we will continue to try to bring as much clarity to the situation as possible.
