Minister Murphy publishes Q3 Construction Status Report

The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy today (11 December 2019) published the Q3 2019 Social Housing Construction Status Report, outlining the significant delivery of social housing across the country.

The latest Construction Status Report shows that:

  • There were 6,499 social homes are onsite nationwide at end September.
  • There were just under 23,000 (22,721) homes in the pipeline, up more than 19% on the pipeline in place coming into 2019.
  • The number of schemes in the programme has grown by 346 schemes / 3,587 homes since the beginning of the year.
  • There were more than triple the amount of schemes reflected in the programme (1,645) at end Q3 2019 than there was at the end of 2016 (504).

The delivery of these homes along with the additional 8,050 homes in the pipeline will substantially aid the continued reduction in the number of households on social housing waiting lists.

These numbers continue to decline with a 5% reduction of households on the waiting lists between 2018 and 2019 and a 25% reduction since 2016. This progress has been possible due to the strong delivery under Rebuilding Ireland with 90,011 homes now delivered up to end of Q3 2019 since Rebuilding Ireland in 2016.

Rebuilding Ireland is on track to exceed its target of delivering 10,000 social housing homes in 2019.
