Minister Naughten meets with Canadian counterpart Catherine McKenna

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten held talks today at Government Buildings with his Canadian counterpart Catherine McKenna, who was appointed to Cabinet by Prime Minister Trudeau as the Minister for Environment and Climate Change Canada in 2015.

Minister McKenna - who has strong Irish roots - and Minister Naughten discussed the potential for jobs and investment in the clean technology industry through stronger co-operation between Ireland and Canada, particularly in the area of ocean energy.

Both Ministers discussed their concerns at the withdrawal by the United States from the Paris Agreement which was announced by US President Trump last month.

Minister McKenna accompanied Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his State visit Ireland.
