Minister of State, Ciarán Cannon, begins visit to Chicago and Indiana to mark St. Patrick’s Day 2018

The Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciarán Cannon, is today travelling to undertake a busy programme of events in Chicago and Indiana to mark St. Patrick’s Day 2018.

While in Chicago, Minister Cannon will engage in an extensive programme of events including a meeting with Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel.
During his visit, Minister of State Cannon will also meet with Irish community groups, represent the Government at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, visit Notre Dame University and hold meetings with representatives of the business community.

Speaking before his departure, Minister of State Cannon said:

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Irish community of Chicago, a city at the centre of America and a city with a strong Irish heritage.
I am particularly looking forward to visiting Irish community organisations and meeting the members of these groups who carry out such valuable work.”
The Minister’s visit is a valuable opportunity to engage with our diaspora and to showcase Ireland in the Midwest.
