Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee meets with Estonian Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Matti Maasikas

The Minister for European Affairs, Helen McEntee, held a bilateral meeting today with the Estonian Minister for European Affairs, Mr. Matti Maasikas.

Minister McEntee welcomed Minister Maasikas’ reaffirmed support for Ireland in the Brexit negotiations.

Minister McEntee said:

“The support of our EU colleagues during the Brexit negotiation process has been unwavering regarding the Irish issues. There is no daylight between Ireland and the other EU 26 member states and the EU negotiating team on the withdrawal agreement including the Irish protocol.”

Both Ministers also discussed the Future of Europe and the Citizens’ Dialogues that Ireland have been holding throughout the country over the last number of months. Minister McEntee outlined the process of engagement regarding the dialogues and informed Minister Maasikas that we will be culminating our process on 9 May in Dublin. This will feed into the overall discussion and debate that is happening across Europe; helping to make the EU work better for its citizens.

Earlier in the day, Minister Massikas spoke at the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA), where he delivered a lecture titled: A Balancing Act: Juggling Brexit, the Next MFF, and EU Institutional Reform.
