Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee, to attend the General Affairs Council (GAC)

The Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee, will participate in the General Affairs Council (GAC) in Luxembourg tomorrow (Tuesday 17th April).

Ministers will be briefed by the European Commission on discussions with Poland on the Rule of Law in that country. The Minister will restate Ireland’s wish to see a speedy and satisfactory resolution of the matter. 

Ministers are also aiming to reach a consensus on reform of the European Parliament’s electoral procedures.

They will have an initial exchange on the latest country reports on candidate and potential candidate countries* for EU membership which will be published the same day.

Prior to the GAC, Minister McEntee will meet with Alexander Stubb, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), a former Finnish Prime Minister. The meeting will focus on the post-2020 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and the role that the EIB might play in the new MFF.
