Minister of State for Regional Economic Development, Michael Ring T.D. approves over €1m of Dormant Accounts Funding

The Minister of State for Regional Economic Development, Michael Ring T.D. today approved €1.013m in funding for a range of measures being administered by the Department of Justice and Equality, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and the Department of Education and Skills.

Minister Ring stated: “I am delighted to be able to provide €1m in support from the Dormant Accounts Fund for a range of important measures. I have approved funding of:

· €408,000 to the Department of Justice and Equality for a pilot mentoring initiative with the Garda Youth Diversion Office, a Helpline services for victims of crime, the provision of services to victims attending court, and a campaign to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence;
· €370,000 to the Department of Education and Skills to support the integration of newcomer students in schools; and
· €235,000 to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport for sports measures for disadvantaged communities to support the National Activity Plan in the following areas -
§ Dublin City Sport and Wellbeing Partnership - €150,000
§ Limerick Local Sports Partnership - €45,000
§ Waterford Local Sports Partnership - €40,000

The Minister added that “Dormant Accounts funding seeks to support projects that are additional or complementary to existing services in areas of greatest need. I believe that these projects perfectly match these criteria and are the type of innovative projects that will provide diverse supports for disadvantaged communities throughout the regions.”
