Note to Editor

Under the provisions made in Acht na Gaeltachta 2012, the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta has twelve members. The Minister for Culture Heritage and the Gaeltacht appoints seven members, including the Chairperson, and county councils which have Gaeltacht areas within their jurisdictions nominate the other five members.

Under the relevant provisions in the Act, the appointment lasts for five years – except for the counties in question who have a small Gaeltacht area, namely: Counties Cork, Waterford and Meath.  In such cases the appointment lasts for a period of two years according to the following rota:  Meath, Cork and Waterford.

As the period of service for the Waterford City and County Council nomination (Máire Seó Breathnach) ended on 14 February 2019, it is up to Meath County Council to nominate the member for the next two years.
