Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Patrick O’Donovan TD, congratulated Ciara Mageean on winning a bronze medal in today’s 1500m final at the European Championships in Amsterdam.

Speaking after the event Minster Ross said: “Ciara ran a magnificent race and I am delighted she got her rewards with a bronze medal. Ciara was very focused today, and all week, it is a wonderful achievement to be bringing home a medal from the European Championships.”

Minister O’Donovan said: “I am delighted for Ciara, she ran a physical and gruelling race, but she stuck at it, and we are very proud of her performance, as I am sure the whole team around her are, bringing home a medal from a major championships is always tough but it is also very special. I also want to pass on my best wishes to the whole team as I know there was a lot of PBs achieved and some great performances overall.”
