Ministers Ross and Griffin congratulate Irish athletes on winning bronze at the European Indoor Athletics Championships

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today congratulated the Irish team on their success at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.

Congratulating the team, Minister Ross said:

On behalf of the Irish people I am delighted to congratulate the Irish Athletics team on their fantastic success at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow. These are indeed exciting times for Irish athletics and the excellent performances and achievements at these Championships will provide further encouragement and inspiration to many young athletes throughout Ireland who aspire to represent their country.

Minister Griffin said,

This is a great achievement for our Irish Athletes to win two medals at such a highly competitive European Indoor Championships. Congratulations to Ciara Mageean on winning bronze in the Women's 1500m final and to Mark English on winning bronze in the Men's 800m final. I would like to wish you all continued success in the future, and especially in your preparations for the World Championships in Doha later in the year.
