Ministers Ross and Griffin send good luck message to Irish team ahead of Hockey Women’s World Cup Quarter-final

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today sent a good luck message to the Ireland team ahead of their Hockey Women’s World Cup quarter-final meeting with India in London.

Graham Shaw’s side beat India and the USA in the group stages to reach the last eight and meet the Indian side once more seeking to clinch an historic progression to the semi-finals.

Minister Ross said:

I want to wish the Irish hockey team the very best of luck ahead of their meeting with India in the quarter-finals of the Hockey Women’s World Cup. The players have shown tremendous tenacity throughout the tournament so far and that application will stand them in good stead ahead of the meeting with India. This team has grown in strength and ability in recent years and we are all incredibly proud of the players and their support staff. I hope the nation gets behind the team and cheers them on this evening.

Minister Griffin added:

Ireland’s performances in the Hockey Women’s World Cup have been a testimony to the dedication the players, coaching staff and all at Irish Hockey have given to this squad over the last number of years. They are getting the rewards for their efforts and I would like to wish them the very best of luck in their quarter-final against India. Reaching a World Cup quarter-final rightly deserves to be applauded and I know they will do the country proud once again.
