The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport’s review of the 2017 round of the Sports Capital Programme (SCP) was published on the Department’s website today.

The SCP is the primary means of providing Government funding to sport and community organisations at local, regional and national level. It aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to the development of sports and physical recreation facilities. Over €60m was allocated to sports clubs and organisations under the 2017 round of the programme.

The review of this 2017 round was undertaken with a view to making recommendations on how to improve the process for future calls and a number of areas have been highlighted in this regard.

In particular, the Department is committed to further reducing the level of invalid applications, to give even greater priority to applications from disadvantaged areas and to provide greater clarity in the Department’s own guide to making an application.
Minister Shane Ross and Minister of State Brendan Griffin welcomed the publication of the review and urged all interested clubs and organisation to start considering potential projects for the 2018 round of the Programme.

In this regard, all clubs and organisations should ensure that they are registered on the Department’s online Sports Capital Programme Application System (OSCAR) www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie where they will find details on how to register.
