Ministers Ross and Griffin wish Irish Rugby Team success at Rugby World cup

The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr. Shane Ross, TD, and the Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Mr. Brendan Griffin, TD, today wished the Irish Rugby Team every success ahead of their World Cup Pool A opener against Scotland in Yokohama tomorrow morning.

Minister Ross said:

On behalf of the Irish people I would like to extend my very best wishes to Joe Schmidt, his coaching and backroom staff and all the players in their opening match of the Rugby World Cup against Scotland in Yokohama tomorrow morning and in the weeks ahead. I want to applaud the hard work, training and commitment of the team and their coaches in preparing for the tournament. The World Cup is the pinnacle of the rugby calendar and I am sure the whole country will be fully behind the team throughout the tournament. I know that many Irish rugby fans will be travelling to Japan for the matches and I have no doubt that they will be a great support to the team.

Minister Griffin said:

I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Irish Rugby Team every success in the Rugby World Cup.  I am sure that expectations are high within the squad and the management to deliver a huge performance in Japan.  This team has performed with enormous credit over the last few years and have given us all many memorable moments to cherish and I have no doubt will do the country proud over the next six weeks.
