More medal success for Team Ireland

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, have extended their congratulations to Team Ireland athletes Eoghan Clifford, Katie-George Dunlevy, Eve McCrystal and Ellen Keane on achieving medals at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Eoghan Clifford won gold in the Men’s C3 30km Time Trial. Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal won gold in the Women’s B Tandem Time Trial and Ellen Keane won bronze in the SB8 100 metres Breaststroke.

Minister Ross said: “I am delighted to be congratulating four more athletes on achieving Olympic medals on what is a fantastic day for Team Ireland. After Colin Lynch earlier in the day winning a silver medal, to see Eoghan Clifford win gold in the Men’s 30km Time Trial, his second medal in the games, and Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal achieving gold in their tandem cycle was truly brilliant. Ellen Keane also swam fantastically well to win a bronze medal in her event. The success of our athletes is a triumph for Team Ireland and it really was a day to remember for Irish sport.”

Minister O’Donovan added: “A huge congratulations to our athletes who achieved medals today. It was fantastic news to hear that Eoghan Clifford secured a gold medal in his time trial after earning a bronze on Friday. Cycling has proved a real source of success for our athletes so far and to have Katie-George and Eve add a gold to the medals already achieved is a testament to the hard work the cycling team has put in to these Games. The ride they produced was truly magnificent and the gap between first and second place is a true demonstration of their brilliance. After a hugely successful day for the cycling team, it was terrific to see Ellen earn Team Ireland’s first medal in the pool. She swam fantastically and it was brilliant to see her securing the bronze. It was a great day for Irish sport and a truly wonderful Wednesday for Team Ireland.”
