O’Dowd welcomes appointment of IFI Expert to Professorial Role at UCD

Assignment underpins quality of IFI research

Minister for Natural Resources, Fergus O’Dowd, T.D. has welcomed the appointment of Dr. Martin O’Grady to the post of Adjunct Professor in UCD’s School of Biology and Environmental Science.

Dr. O’Grady is employed by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), a statutory body under the aegis of the Minister’s Department. Its principal function is the protection, conservation, and promotion of the inland fisheries resource. It also provides scientific advice to the Minister in terms of underpinning the management of fisheries.

Minister O’Dowd said, “Dr. O’Grady’s appointment at UCD reinforces the world class standard of research programmes undertaken in Inland Fisheries Ireland in the fisheries area and confirms the confidence I have in the important advice I regularly receive. The assignment recognises his proven status as a leading European expert in fisheries research and will strengthen the well-established scientific links between UCD and IFI.”

The Minister emphasised that Dr. O’Grady’s professorial appointment will greatly assist in developing collaboration on research projects between IFI and the University and will contribute to research and teaching capacity in the School of Biology and Environmental Science.
