Press Release by the Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley T.D., concerning the Subsidised Cargo Service for Islands in West Cork

The Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Dinny McGinley TD, has announced that his Department has come to an agreement with Comharchumann Chléire Teo. regarding the provision of a subsidised heavy cargo service for islands in West Cork. The islands in question are Cléire, Sherkin Island, Inishodriscol, and Long Island.

 

The 50-day service will run over the period of a year from 1st February 2013 to 31 January 2014 at a cost of €67,000. The service will be provided by Carbery Isle Ferries Ltd. Making the announcement, Minister McGinley said that this agreement will ensure that the islands in West Cork will have a cargo service on which they can rely, which will be of great help to the population of those islands.

 

"I am happy that my Department is able to be of assistance in providing a cargo service for the islands of West Cork in the coming year,"

said the Minister of State.
