Public safety must be the priority says Minister Murphy as more work is required to lift the boil water notice

Eoghan Murphy, T.D., Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government has expressed his extreme disappointment that a precautionary boil water notice for areas in Dublin, Kildare and Meath remains in place.

The EPA and the HSE conducted an audit of the water treatment plant earlier today and found that more work was necessary in order to ensure that the water produced at the Leixlip plant is safe for all consumers.

This most recent incident has again caused major inconvenience and concern to more than 600,000 people and to business in the affected parts of Dublin, Kildare and Meath.

The Minister said this evening:

People in the affected areas have shown incredible patience and fortitude in the face of this ongoing major disruption to daily life and business, and I thank everyone for that. Regretfully, the audit today has found that more work is needed to make the Leixlip plant operate safely again. Irish Water must now progress these works without any delay.

The staff of Irish Water, Fingal County Council, the EPA and the HSE all continue to work together to ensure that the notice is lifted in as short a time as possible.
