The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD, is in Brussels today where he is due to address a major European conference on the rule of Law.

The conference, Assises de la Justice,which takes place over two days, will reflect on the current justice policy of the European Union and will seek to generate ideas which will contribute directly to shaping the EU's justice policy over the coming years.

In addressing the conference, Minister Shatter will focus on issues such as hate crime, xenophobia and discrimination and he will point to new initiatives which could be introduced to promote pluralism, solidarity and respect for human rights and civil liberties.
