Shatter welcomes release of Halawa sisters

I am delighted that my constituents, Somaia, Fatima and Omaima Halawa, have been released and are now able to return to Dublin. I know this will come as a great relief to their family with whom I have remained in touch during their detention. I hope that their brother Ibrahim will, after his court appearance on Saturday, be able to return to Dublin with his sisters. I want to thank the Tanaiste, Eamon Gilmore, and his officials in the Department of Foreign Affairs with whom I have regularly discussed their circumstances and also our Embassy officials in Cairo for their engagement with the family and the Egyptian authorities.
