Statement by Jimmy Deenihan on death of Patsy Byrne

Jimmy Deenihan TD, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, has expressed his deep sorrow at the sudden death of Patsy Byrne and has offered his condolences to his wife, family and his many friends in both the sporting and business world.

Minister Deenihan commented:

“It was with great sadness that I heard of Patsy's sudden and untimely passing. Patsy, along with his brother Johnny, founded the Byrne Group, a leading construction firm in the UK. They were involved in many landmark projects including the Olympic Stadium, the Emirates Stadium, Stamford Bridge, the Centre and Number One Court at Wimbledon, and most recently the Shard. In all of this, both Patsy and Johnny were great providers of employment to the Irish community in London.

"Patsy was an avid supporter of all sports and was an especially admired figure in the greyhound and horse racing circuit. He was also a great benefactor of many projects, including projects within County Kerry such as the Seanchaí Centre and the Lartigue Monorail. I would like to offer my deep condolences to his wife, family and many friends on their loss."
