Statement by Minister Alan Shatter on the death of Christopher Robson

"I am sorry to learn of the death of Chris Robson. I extend my sympathy to

Bill Foley, his partner, to his family and to his friends. I know that

Chris and Bill recently celebrated their civil partnership. Chris

co-chaired GLEN for many years, and was then an active Board member. Over

three decades, he was an inspirational figure in the work to achieve civil

rights for all citizens in Ireland. He was instrumental in the campaign to

achieve decriminalisation of consensual gay sexual activity, to bring about

equality legislation, and to introduce civil partnership. He helped

crucially to articulate the human-rights case for civil marriage. He was a

founder of Gay Health Action, which carved out constructive policies for

responding to the AIDS crisis.  He was a profound conscience who cared. He

always stood for the principle of equal citizenship for all."
