Statement by the Tánaiste on the death of the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Ireland

I was saddened to learn of the untimely death of the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Ireland, H.E. Mikhail E. Timoshkin. Since his arrival in Ireland in 2006, Ambassador Timoshkin worked to strengthen the ties between our two countries and peoples. In particular I would like to pay tribute to the key role he played in the President’s visit to Russia in September last year. This was the first visit by a President of Ireland to the Russian Federation and marked a significant step forward in our bilateral relationship.

On behalf of the Government and on my own behalf, I offer my sincere condolences to Ambassador Timoshkin’s widow, Olga, and to his family, colleagues and friends.
