Statement by Minister Simon Coveney on the sixth anniversary of the downing of flight MH17

Today, on the sixth anniversary of the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Simon Coveney T.D., remembers the 298 victims who lost their lives:

Our thoughts today are with all those who lost loved ones so tragically that day.

We must establish truth, justice and accountability for the 298 victims and their grieving families. The criminal trial, which started earlier this year in The Hague, is an important milestone in this regard.

As the criminal investigation of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) continues, I reiterate the call on all states to cooperate with the investigation, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2166 (2014).

The victims and the bereaved deserve no less.
