Statement by the Tánaiste on the terrorist attack in Libya

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney, has condemned the terrorist attack which took place last night in Benghazi, Libya, killing at least 27 people.

The Tánaiste said:

“I offer the sympathies of the Irish people and the Government of Ireland to the families of those who lost their lives, and to those who were injured, in last night’s attacks in Benghazi. The explosions, outside a mosque, were clearly intended to cause significant casualties. Libya urgently needs a return to peace and stability, and I strongly support UN efforts to achieve this.”
