Statement on the Cyber Attack on the HSE

Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Ossian Smyth this morning had an update briefing with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) with regard to the cyber attack on the HSE.

The NCSC's full resources have been committed to supporting the HSE in its response to the cyber attack, and the NCSC is liaising with international partners and third-party contractors. This work will continue throughout the weekend with the focus on supporting the HSE's recovery process in order to minimise disruption to services. Last evening the NCSC published an Advisory containing guidance for organisations to help them avoid the same type of attack, including specific material related to the HSE incident. This will be updated as further material becomes available from the ongoing investigation. The NCSC has also issued advisories to all its constituents across government and operators of essential services to help these bodies detect similar attacks but also providing guidance on responding to ransomware attacks. The Ministers will continue to liaise closely with the NCSC, the HSE and the Department of Health throughout the weekend. The NCSC will issue further advice and guidance as appropriate.  Follow the NCSC on Twitter for updates: @ncsc_gov_ie
