Tánaiste, as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, strongly condemns terrorist acts in Dagestan

DUBLIN, 4 May 2012 – Tánaiste  and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore TD, as Chairperson-in-Office, condemned today the terrorist attacks that took place last night in Dagestan. The Tánaiste said:

“I strongly condemn these horrendous acts which resulted in the loss of lives and left dozens of people injured.  I commend the prompt actions undertaken by the authorities to investigate these acts of terror, and hope the perpetrators of the crime will soon be brought to justice.”

Late on Thursday evening two suspected bomb attacks took place near a road checkpoint in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s North Caucasus region of Dagestan. According to official information, more than ten people were killed, including law enforcement officers, and some 100 injured.  Several of them are in a critical condition.  The Tánaiste said:

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.
