Tánaiste welcomes announcement that Enniskillen will host the G8 Summit in June 2013

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Eamon Gilmore T.D., has welcomed the announcement today by Prime Minister David Cameron that the next G8 Summit will be held in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh.

The Tánaiste said:

“I want to join with the First Minister and Deputy First Minister who have welcomed this announcement as a clear vote of confidence for Northern Ireland.

The G8 will be the biggest international diplomatic gathering to be held in Northern Ireland. It comes after the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Ministerial Council in Dublin on 6-7 December, the single largest gathering of Foreign Ministers to take place in Ireland, and will coincide with our Presidency of the EU in the first half of next year. Every one of these events helps to underline the progress made on our island since the Good Friday Agreement and helps to promote the whole island internationally.”
