Tánaiste welcomes the release of the last two members of the group of 75 in Cuba

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Eamon Gilmore, T.D., has welcomed the announcement by the Cuban Government that the remaining two prisoners from the group of seventy-five originally incarcerated in 2003 have been released.  Speaking today, the Tánaiste said:

"I very much welcome the fact that, with the release of Jose Ferrer and Felix Navarro, all of the members of the group of 75 political prisoners imprisoned by the Cuban Government in 2003 are now free.  It is my hope that, following their release, which was sought by Ireland and the EU, progress can now be made towards the negotiation of a comprehensive agreement between the EU and Cuba, which would allow for more structured political dialogue and enhanced economic and social cooperation"
