The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney, T.D., met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Mr Teo Chee Hean during his two-day trip to Dublin today.

The Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied on the visit by Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ms Low Yen Ling, and Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Member of Parliament of Singapore.

During a bilateral meeting, the Tánaiste and Deputy PM Teo Chee Hean discussed relations between Ireland and Singapore, including economic and cultural links.

Speaking after the meeting, the Tánaiste said:

“I am delighted to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Teo and his delegation to Ireland, and to discuss the strong links between our countries, as well as the many areas of common interest we share. Although Ireland and Singapore are geographically distant, our similarities as small island nations with open economies mean that our priorities on the global stage often closely resemble each other.

“Singapore is a key hub for Irish companies looking to expand to South East Asia, and likewise, Ireland is well-situated to act as a platform from which Singaporean companies can access European markets. This visit strengthens our existing relationship, and will help us build ever-closer connections between our nations.”

During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Teo and his delegation will also meet with the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr Paschal Donohoe T.D., and the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government Mr Eoghan Murphy T.D., as well as Ceann Comhairle, Seán Ó Fearghaíl.
