Taoiseach congratulates Paralympic athletes on latest medal wins

The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, has today congratulated Mark Rohan on his fantastic achievement of winning a gold medal in the H1 Handcycling time trial at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The Taoiseach said, 'Winning the gold medal is a fantastic achievement for Mark who has already established himself as a world class athlete through his World Championship victory.'

The Taoiseach also extended his congratulations to Catherine Walsh and Fran Meehan for their bronze medal in the Women's Tandem Time Trial, James Brown and Dominic Shaw for their bronze medal in the Men's Tandem Time Trial, Orla Barry for her bronze medal in the discus, Helen Kearney and Mister Cool for Helen's third medal of the Games in winning bronze in the para-equestrian individual freestyle test 1a and all the Paralympians who have each done Ireland proud at the Games.

The Taoiseach added, 'This has been an absolutely fantastic Paralympic Games for Ireland. The whole country is immensely proud of each and every one of our athletes. On behalf of the whole country, I wish my best to our athletes in all remaining events and I'm sure there will be many memorable performances still to come.'

The latest medals bring Ireland's total to 13, including 6 gold.
