Taoiseach Welcomes JobBridge Milestone

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny, T.D. has welcomed the news that JobBridge, the Government's National Internship Scheme has reached its target of 5,000 internship posts since its launch.

"I am delighted that JobBridge has provided 5,000 internships in only 8 months since I launched it last June. Today 5,000 additional young people have had invaluable experience in the work place with some already securing a full time job as a result. The scheme was a flagship commitment of the Government’s Job Initiative launched within the first 100 days of Government. I would like to congratulate Minister Joan Burton and Mr. Martin Murphy, Managing Director of HP Ireland and chair of the Steering Group on the National Internship Scheme, for working hard to deliver 5,000 quality internship places so quickly.

I would also like to thank the many businesses who stepped up to provide these invaluable opportunities for young people. As I said at the launch of JobBridge, overcoming this jobs crisis will be a truly national effort and the participation and effort of the private, public and voluntary sectors is essential. I would encourage all to engage with JobBridge, to provide more quality internship opportunities, and help get Ireland working again."

There are currently over 2,000 further posts available under the Scheme.
