Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has sent his best wishes to captain Peter O'Mahony and his Lions team ahead of Saturday's first Test against New Zealand in Auckland.

 
It’s a great honour to captain the Lions and I want to wish Peter and the team every success against the All Blacks tomorrow. Having six Irish players involved is great for Irish rugby and there is a real sense of anticipation around the game.
 
Peter is the type of character who leads by example and inspires those around him. There will be no shortage of effort or commitment as the Lions seek that important first Test win. The Irish fans are right behind them.
