The Múscraí Language Plan sanctioned by Minister of State McHugh

The Chief Whip of the Government and Minister of State for the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Joe McHugh, today, 4 May 2018 announced that the language plan for the Irish Language Planning Area of Múscraí has been approved under the language planning process.

This is the fifth plan approved by the Minister of State under the language planning process. Subject to the settlement announced in 2017, an allocation worth up to € 100,000 over a 12 month period will be available to begin the operation of the Múscraí language plan.

The Minister of State said:,

By approving this plan, the next phase of the language planning process in the Múscraí Gaeltacht will begin through the implementation of the language plan based on the views and needs of the people of the area. Comharchumann Forbartha Mhúscraí, the organisation in charge of the plan, will have access to an allocation worth up to € 100,000 this year to run their plan activities and employ a Language Planning Officer. This is a great opportunity for Múscraí to conserve and strengthen the Irish language in their area.

I congratulate everyone who was involved in preparing the language plan and I wish them every success - now that the implementation of the plan is about to start. It is clear that the area's head organisation has committed to the process enthusiastically for the benefit of their area and language. I wish them all, and all the people of Múscraí, the very best in their work in the years ahead.
