The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Coveney will visit London on Thursday for a series of high-level engagements with members of the British Cabinet as well as for a number of cultural engagements.

Speaking about the visit, the Tánaiste said:

I am delighted to once again meet with my British Ministerial colleagues in London. This is another demonstration of the close and positive bilateral relationship between Ireland and the UK. I will take the opportunity to exchange views on the current state of play in the Brexit negotiations, underlining again the importance of making progress on the issues of great importance to Ireland, including on protecting the Good Friday Agreement and avoiding a hard border. While Brexit poses major challenges, I am also interested in taking forward ideas with British colleagues on how we protect and continue to advance our bilateral relationship when the UK will be outside the EU.

The Tánaiste will also attend the launch of ‘The Cambridge History of Ireland’, a comprehensive and authoritative history of Ireland from 600AD to present. The Tánaiste will participate in the event, which takes place at the Embassy, alongside special guest, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, The Rt Hon Sir John Major KG CH.

In addition, the Tánaiste will visit the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith for the first time since it reopened in 2017.

I am delighted to get an opportunity to tour the Irish Cultural Centre which has been a focal point for the Irish community in London for many years. We are delighted to continue supporting the centre through the Emigrant Support Programme, and I am excited to see the newly built centre.
