World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday 2 April 2016

The Minister of State at the Department of Health, Ms Kathleen Lynch TD is pleased to recognise World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday 2 April.

To mark the day, the Office of Public Works has arranged for a number of high profile buildings to be lit up in blue. These are;

- the National Concert Hall
- Kilkenny Castle
- the offices of the Department of Education, and
- Casino Marino.

Ms Lynch welcomed this as a positive development and said that she hoped it would help to raise awareness of autism among the general public. She called on local authorities to also participate in awareness raising by lighting up civic buildings.

The Government continues to be committed to people with disabilities, including autism. In 2016, funding of €1.56 billion is being provided by the HSE for disability services.
