Meeting Between Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD and US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner

The Taoiseach and the Treasury Secretary had a 30 minute meeting in Washington, DC on the eve of the St Patrick’s Day celebrations at the White House.

They had a very good exchange on the global economic situation and the prospects for the world economy.

The Taoiseach outlined his new Government’s plans for economic reform, against the background of the EU-IMF Programme and the ongoing negotiations in the European Union, as they affect Ireland.

He reiterated the new Irish Government’s determination to address conclusively the issues of reducing the budget deficit, reforming the banking system and implementing a clear policy programme.

The Treasury Secretary shared his perspective on current developments in the US and the prospects for the global economy.
