Minister of State for the Gaeltacht Dinny McGinley TD will this afternoon (Wednesday 26th September, 2012) officially launch Féile Blas Bídh Uíbh Ráthaigh - the Iveragh Peninsula & Gaeltacht Food Festival, at the National Ploughing Championships in New Ross, Co Wexford.

The Food Festival will be held between 19th to 21th October 2012 - and will be a celebration of all that is good and healthy about the Iveragh Peninsula & Gaeltacht Culinary Sector. The general public will be informed of the development that is made by local producers and also their enthusiasm in encouraging others to get involved in the food production area.

Speaking at the launch Minister McGinley said "the food sector is the biggest indigenous industry in Ireland and it is a very important to the Gaeltacht economy where some of the most recognised food brands are currently produced - products like fish and shellfish processing, jam , baking and chocolate making to mention a few. This is an excellent opportunity to market the foods of the Iveragh Peninsula, to recognise the invaluable work that is being done by local food industries in producing and marketing their produce.

"I am very happy that Udarás na Gaeltachta was in position to support this project as part of their " Scéim na bFéilte" scheme and that they recognise the development potential of this sector. I wish to congratulate the organisation Committee for their enthusiasm, commitment and energy for the benefit of the local economy and industry. I hope that the week-end Food Festival will be a successful and enjoyable occasion " the Minister of State concluded.
