Shatter Seeks Expressions of Interest for Appointment to the Board of the National Disability Authority

Justice Minister Alan Shatter today sought expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced persons who wish to be considered for appointment to the Board of the National Disability Authority.

This is the first time that a vacancy on the NDA Board has been advertised, following a Government decision in May 2011 to advertise such vacancies.

The position is for the period up to December 20, 2013, and the Appointee may be eligible to serve for a second term.

The main functions of the Authority as set out in the NDA Act 1999 and the Disability Act 2005 are as follows:

•To provide policy advice to Government and public bodies

•To undertake, commission and collaborate in disability research and assist in the development of statistical information

•To advise on standards and guidelines in services to people with disabilities

•To develop standards, education and promote awareness of Universal Design
