Minister Zappone welcomes Report on the Provision of Foster Care in Ireland by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Ms. Katherine Zappone, T.D,
today welcomed the publication of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on
Children and Youth Affairs’ report on the provision of foster care services
in Ireland.

Speaking today the Minister said, “I’m grateful to the Joint Oireachtas
Committee for their work on this report and for their examination of such
an important topic as foster care. We have continued over the past number
of years to invest heavily in Tusla so that Foster Care, among other
services provided by Tusla, will develop, grow and improve.”

“Of course, that is not to say that everything is perfect – if fact we all
know it is not. But I am extremely conscious of the dedication, good will
and emotional warmth displayed by so very many of our foster families as
well as social work teams, and I think a careful and thorough examination
of the report is warranted to inform action in this important area”.

The Minister also added the report was supplied to officials and Tusla this
morning who are currently examining its contents. “I will be discussing
this further with my officials when their analysis of matters raised is
compete”, the Minister said.
