Minister Hayes Hands Over Mulranny Former Garda Station to Local Community

Mr. Brian Hayes, TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) today (20 February 2014) officially handed over the keys of the former Garda Station in Mulranny for community use. The Mulranny Amenity Centre group accepted the keys on behalf of the community and will use the premises as a centre for active local groups, specifically in the area of environmental research and management.

Speaking at the handover today, the Minister said, “It gives me great pleasure to see former Garda Stations being handed back to their communities and put to worthwhile use. My colleagues in the OPW have assigned 13 former Garda Stations to date and we are working on several more. Today, I'm delighted to hand over the keys of the Mulranny former station to the Mulranny Amenity Centre community group. I'm told that the group's aims include improving road safety, promoting tourism, increasing activities for young people and the general community; all of which will be of great benefit to the local residents. I wish the group well with their plans and I hope to see many more community groups avail of this initiative. ”
