Minister for Education Norma Foley TD and Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Josepha Madigan TD have today (23 November) congratulated the 67,130 Junior Cycle examination candidates who will receive their results today.
This year marks a full return to externally delivered Junior Cycle examinations for all candidates, for the first time since 2019. It is also the first full year of examinations in the reformed Junior Cycle.
Minister Foley said:
“I would like to sincerely congratulate over 67,000 of you on receiving your Junior Cycle examinations results. This is a significant milestone in your education journey. Today, some 594,000 grades across 21 individual subjects are being issued and I want to sincerely wish all of you getting your results the very best.
“Throughout your school life, each of you will have learned so much and will have developed a myriad of talents, skills and ambitions that will pave the way as you embark on the next stage of your education journey.
“I want to congratulate each and every one of you again on reaching this major milestone in your life and best wishes for your next steps.
“To your parents and families, your school communities and teachers, I want to send my heartfelt thanks. I know what it is like to support students through state examinations and I know your commitment and support has helped these students to reach this point today. Thanks are also due to the State Examinations Commission and all those involved in completing the examination process.”
Minister Madigan said:
“Today is a big day for families, teachers, Special Needs Assistants and other school staff as they watch their own students receive the results of their first State Examinations. I want to send my best wishes and congratulations to the students who will receive their results today.
“I am grateful to our school staff members. Thank you for guiding the Junior Cycle class of 2022 through the process of the State Examinations, and helping to empower the next generation through education.”
Results will be issued in schools today and candidates who are unable to attend school can also access their results online through www.examinations.ie from 4pm. A unique PIN and their examination number have been issued to schools for each candidate already, to enable them access online results.

Until 2019, only English, Science and Business Studies had been examined under the reformed Junior Cycle curriculum. Apart from Irish, English and Mathematics which are examined at Higher and Ordinary level, all other Junior Cycle subjects are now at Common level.
All of the examinations introduced under Junior Cycle Reform entail no-choice examinations, reflecting the intention that those achieving the highest grades will have demonstrated a high level of mastery of the knowledge, understanding and skills concerned, across the entire specification.
Some 594,000 grades in 21 individual subjects are being provided to 67,130 candidates this year. The overall number sitting Junior Cycle examinations has increased by 4.4% on 2019 and the proportion of candidates who are re-entrants to education has fallen from 0.86 % of the cohort in 2019 to 0.26% in 2022.
