The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD, today visited Co Meath. Minister O’Brien officially opened 96 new social homes in Dunshaughlin and visited the site in Ashbourne where a further 74 homes are under construction. In total, 170 social homes are being delivered across the two sites.
The 96 new homes are located in The Willows, Dunshaughlin, and were delivered by Clúid Housing, working in partnership with Meath County Council and Gem Group. The Department provided €7.32m towards this project as part of Housing for All, the Government’s housing plan to 2030.
Minister O’Brien also visited the site of a new social housing development on Castle Street, Ashbourne, where Meath County Council will deliver a further 74 new homes on a site within walking distance of all town amenities.
Speaking during his visit to County Meath, Minister O’Brien said:
“The completion of these 96 social homes means permanent, secure housing for families and individuals in Dunshaughlin, making a real difference to those people’s quality of life. The Government remains focused on investing more in social and affordable housing, as is evident by our support for Meath County Councils development in Ashbourne.
“It was a real joy to meet and speak with the new residents of The Willows and I want to commend Clúid Housing and Meath County Council, who, supported by my Department, have delivered this fantastic development.
I also want to pay particular thanks to Meath County Council who, it is clear to see, are working hard on their very ambitious delivery targets.”
Overall, Meath County Council has a target to provide 1,372 social homes between 2022 and 2026 through new-build construction activity. The Government’s target of an average of 33,000 homes per year includes an average of 10,000 social homes per year.
