Minister of State Smyth attends Ireland's National Recovery and Resilience Plan Annual Event

The Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform, Ossian Smyth T.D. met with Declan Costello, Deputy Director General, Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission today at Ireland’s first National Recovery and Resilience Plan Annual Event.

The National Recovery and Resilience Plan is funded under the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility with Ireland in line to receive €915million in grants over the lifetime of the Facility.

This recovery package represents an unprecedented response by the European Union to the public health and economic and social crisis caused by COVID-19.

Speaking at the event, Minister of State Smyth said:

“I was delighted to open Ireland's first annual National Recovery and Resilience Plan annual event today. We value our EU Membership and the Recovery and Resilience Facility is another example of Europe working together to overcome common challenges."

In order to access this funding, Ireland has developed the National Recovery and Resilience Plan which sets out sixteen investment projects and nine reform measures which will be supported covering the following priority areas:

  • Advancing the Green Transition;
  • Accelerating and Expanding Digital Reforms and Transformation;
  • Social and Economic Recovery and Job Creation.

The overall objective of the plan is to contribute to a sustainable, equitable, green and digital recovery effort, complementing and supporting the Government’s broader recovery effort.

This year’s Annual Event, which was opened by Minister Smyth, centred on the key green, digital and social priority areas. The attendance included European Commission delegates, the project managers for all 25 projects within the Plan as well as key stakeholders.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Declan Costello, Deputy Director General, Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (ECFIN) at the European Commission.
