Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, has today (11th December 2013) announced the allocation of €1.5million in capital funding for the provision of 30 new Youth Cafés in communities across the country.
The 30 new Youth Cafés (listed below) were selected on foot of a call for applications earlier this year and selection process overseen by Pobal and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
This funding brings the total investment in new Youth Cafés under this Government to €2.2 million since 2011.
Minister Fitzgerald stated “As Minister, I have had the opportunity to visit many recently opened Youth Cafés across the country. I have seen at first hand how these facilities can offer a safe, alcohol free, environment for young people to ‘hang out’. I have also been greatly impressed at the innovative partnership approach taken by many youth services in developing youth cafes as dynamic local hubs offering information and services to young people on key youth issues from positive mental health to employment support.
“The funding I am announcing today demonstrates this Government’s commitment to investing in even more Youth Cafés in more communities nationwide.”
