Taoiseach Micheál Martin meets Singapore Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister

Taoiseach Micheál Martin met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in Singapore today.

At The Istana, the two leaders discussed economic, cultural and political relations, and opportunities, between Singapore and Ireland.

The hour-long bilateral also covered a wide range of issues, including the global response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, regional issues in Asia, EU-UK relations, and climate change.

The leaders also had an exchange on Singapore’s death penalty and LGBT rights.

This is the first visit by a Taoiseach to Singapore since 2004.

The Taoiseach later met Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong at The Treasury, where they discussed global economic challenges, as well as opportunities for cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, education and research.

The Taoiseach also attended a business lunch hosted by State agencies including Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and Bord Bia, and will attend an Irish Community Reception before departure this evening.
