Appointments to the Circuit and District Courts

At its meeting today, the Government agreed to nominate Ms Elva Duffy, Barrister, for appointment as an ordinary judge of the Circuit Court by the President of Ireland.

 

The Government also agreed to nominate Mr. Ciaran Liddy, Solicitor, and Ms. Susan Fay, Solicitor, for appointment as ordinary judges of the District Court by the President of Ireland.

 

The vacancy in the Circuit Court arose following the retirement of His Honour Judge Patrick Meghan on 2 October 2022.

 

The first District Court vacancy arose following the sudden passing of Judge Seamus Hughes on 12 July 2022. The second vacancy arose following the retirement of Judge Victor Blake on 29 July 2022.

 

The Government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
