A range of organisations, including educational institutions, youth organisations and community groups across Ireland are eligible for grants of up to €180,000 under a new scheme announced by Minister for Overseas Development Aid and Diaspora Colm Brophy T.D. today. Irish Aid Global Citizenship Education grants support organisations to build understanding of the rapidly changing, inter-dependant and unequal world in which we live and to encourage individual and collective action by people of all ages. The scheme includes the Innovation Challenge Fund, which supports initiatives designed to reach new audiences or which pioneer new approaches to Global Citizenship Education, including the use of new technologies. Encouraging organisations to apply for funding, Minister Brophy said: “I strongly believe that teaching people about the challenges facing our world must start at early years and primary school level. Our world is constantly changing and whether we are in school, third level education or engaged in community organisations, learning about these changes is a lifelong process." “These grants help partners work within their communities to develop grassroots activity towards a better world. I encourage groups interested in this work, or who want to try something new, to promote global citizenship to apply for support.” In 2022, 25 organisations across Ireland were successful in securing funding under the scheme, including support to 13 organisations under the Innovation Challenge Fund. The call for proposals for the grant process opens today and the closing date for receipt of Eligibility Forms is 28 October 2022.  More information on how to apply for funding is available here. • Irish Aid’s Global Citizenship Education (GCE) strategy aims to promote innovation in how community organisations, educational institutions and other actors approach Global Citizenship Education. It has a particular focus on engaging people from the broadest possible range of backgrounds, in particular those marginalised from mainstream education.
